The Fraser River Lodge

British Columbia : Latin motto, Splendor sine occasu “Splendour without diminishment”. Home of the mighty White Sturgeon, phenomenal runs of trophy Salmon and the prized wild Steelhead.

British Columbia is arguably the greatest of all sport fishing playgrounds on the planet. From the glacier fed wilderness streams to the mighty river systems that flow to the Pacific Ocean the West Coast offers year round sport on a colossal scale. Every year four of the five salmon species return in their millions ( Pink salmon return biannually)to provide a real challenge to the discerning angler. Due to the unique life cycle of these migratory salmon an incredible eco system has evolved over millions of years, creating an exceptional environment that can sustain healthy stocks of the massive White Sturgeon, the largest freshwater fish on earth. The returning salmon also provide a plentiful diet of eggs for the trophy rainbow, bull and cutthroat trout, all prize targets for the fly fishing enthusiast. As the Latin motto “Splendor sine occasu” suggests, British Columbia is a splendid province; it is also rather excessive because not only can it boast the mighty Chinook (Spring) along with it’s hard fighting cousins the Coho (silver) , Chum, Sockeye and Pink salmon, it possesses the ultimate prize for the game angler, the Steelhead. This large searun rainbow trout takes skill, cunning and knowledge to locate and catch and at Fly2Fish we pride ourselves on having some of the top Steelhead guides in the world to help our clients do exactly that.

The Fraser River valley offers everything from quiet untouched back waters and lakes to the more frequented main river. The Fraser River is surrounded by breathtaking mountains and countryside full of bald eagles, ospreys, black bear and elk.

The Rivers

The Fraser River is famous for its spectacular salmon runs which run into millions of fish returning every year. The salmon run starts in June with the return of the powerful Chinook (Spring or King) salmon which can grow to weights in excess of 45lbs. Sockeye follow in August with the Pink salmon returning every odd year (e.g. 2007,2009 …etc.) at the end of August. September and October see the return of the Coho (Silver) and Chum (Dog) salmon. An alternative option to spin, bar or fly fishing for salmon is to fish for the “Fraser River Marlin” … The Giant White Sturgeon. These magnificent fish live over 200 years and have been known to reach lengths of over 16 feet.

The Harrison River is one of the main tributaries of the Fraser River near Agassiz and is famous for its bright green colours. It is the most prolific salmon producing tributary of the Fraser River and gives you the angler the chance of catching all five species of salmon (Pink salmon return on odd years only, e.g. 2007,2009 … etc.), steelhead, sturgeon and trout. It is truly a fly fisherman’s paradise.

The Chilliwack/Vedder River is famous for its abundance of salmon and steelhead. 28 miles of access gives the angler plenty of opportunity to fish almost year round. One of the largest hatcheries in British Columbia secures the possibility of catching many fish.

The Chehalis River runs into the Harrison River but still produces large amounts of salmon and steelhead. Rugged terrain offers limited access for fisherman.

The Skagit River is one of the premier rainbow trout waters in the British Columbia and is a fly only “catch and release” water. The river is every fly fisherman’s dream and should be seen and fished at least once in your lifetime.

Alternatively the Lodge can offer the more adventurous angler unspoilt fishing away from the main rivers on pristine WILDERNESS Rivers and Lakes in the surrounding mountains which very few fisherman get to see. These waters are fly fishing heaven and offer a great opportunity to fish for Bull, Cutthroat and Rainbow trout along with Dolly Varden Char and salmon.
